Wow, it's been a while since I've posted on here. For not being busy, there sure isn't alot of time to get this done.
Let's see, what have we been doing? We have had a couple of cool nights and had to use the heat. But for the past week the weather has been beautiful. Sunny and 70's during the day and at night it gets down into the 50's (perfect sleeping weather).
Dean has been sick with a sinus problem almost since the first day we got here. He got some medication from his Dad and started that on Saturday. He really hasn't felt like doing alot. He did manage to go visit Micheal, Noble and Mason on Saturday afternoon. He and Mason then went to see "The Men Who Stare at Goats". He said it was a pretty good movie. I stayed home, because I worked that day.
I got a job at IHop and last week I was training from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. I'm not a morning person anymore, after working nights at Biff's and then not having a schedule since March, I've decided I don't like getting up in the morning and having to go somewhere right away. It's not that I don't like mornings, I just don't want to rush off somewhere. I am done training and this week have a schedule of 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., which is fine with me. I can drink my coffee and putz around in the morning.
I took the dogs for a walk this morning and noticed an RV a couple of spaces down from us from MN. It's nice to see other people from MN, they don't talk funny.
Mason is in the marching band at school and on Friday he is marching at TX stadium. I hope Dean is feeling well enough to go watch him. I have to work, but if Dean goes he will video it and I'll watch it when I get home.
I haven't talked to Cailey or Aaron in over a week.
I tried calling them last night but no answer. Both Cailey and Aaron are doing exceptionally well in school, they had their conferences last week and the report was very good on both of them. I get videos and pictures, almost daily, from Addie. She sure is growing up fast. She's waving bye-bye and 'talking'. She's crawling and just being a normal 8 month old. I can't wait to see all of the kids.
Well, I guess that's all I know right now. I'll try to be more diligent in updating the website.
Have a good day and thanks for reading
Ugh, this is getting ridiculous!
Another storm system moving through our area again. It seems we have 3 days of rain and one day of sun. I guess I should be grateful though, at least it's warm. Right now it's 77 degrees, but cloudy. We are supposed to have severe storms later today. Cruiser is under the table because he doesn't like the wind.
Last night we at a restaurant called Rosa's Cafe. It was really good. It was a Mexican cafe where you go in and order your meal and when it's done you go pick it up. Like I said it was very good. We got alot of food and it was very inexpensive.
I'm getting laundry done before the storms move in. I guess today I'll clean the bathroom. I need to give the dogs a bath, but with the rain they'll just get all muddy. Oh, dear, what to do???
I got a text message from Jessy today and she and Kurt both have fevers. Aaron has been sick for a couple of days with the fever. I hope he gets better so that he can go trick-or-treating. Seems like Cailey and Addie are healthy. We'll keep our fingers crossed and hopes up that everyone mends soon and that the girls don't get sick.
Well, off to the laundry to get my clothes
Here I am at 4:30 a.m. drinking coffee and blogging because there isn't too many other things to do at this time of day.
Dean is not feeling. He has a cough and stuffy nose. He was up around 4 a.m. and came back to bed and asked if I'd make coffee. So, being the good wife, I said yes. Well, needless to say I put the coffee on and he fell back to sleep. I'm drinking the coffee and he'll have to hope there is some left when he wakes up.
Yesterday was a sunny day and high around 65. Today is supposed to be sunny and with a high around 72. We were going to have Charlie, Jeanne, Micheal, Rita and the boys over for a picnic today, but with Dean being sick, he'll have to cancel it. None of them need to be sick. So, now I have pork chops and hamburger thawed so we'll be eating that for the next week.
Tony is in Las Vegas. Well, at least I think he is. He was supposed to call me when he got there, but I guess his first priority wasn't his mother once he landed. Hmmmm....he's probably just going to bed, considering it's only 3 a.m. there.
I was able to post some new pictures on here. They are of the flooding in the campground that happened earlier this week.
Thanks for reading, have a good weekend.
Ok, so it's rained ALL day. Not a light rain, either. It's been pretty much a consistent downpour all day long. This morning we were under a flash flood watch. That's been upgraded to a flash flood warning. Dean just said that he hopes the RV is airtight, because we may be floating away in it.
I stopped and saw Charlie and Jeanne today for a little while. Had a glass of tea and then came back to the RV park.
I washed my floors and bedding yesterday and everything was nice and clean. Today, with the dogs being outside in the rain, the floors are dirty and bedding will need to be washed again. The dogs smell like dogs so as soon as it dries up, they are getting a bath.
Cailey just called and said she lost one of her molars. Her Daddy was going to call the Tooth Fairy and make sure she knew that Cailey was at his house.
It sounds like Cailey, Aaron and Addie are ready for Halloween. I hope they have good weather.
Well, I'm tired for sitting around and doing nothing so I think I'll go to bed and read awhile and hope that rain has stopped when we get up in the morning.
Have a good night. Love you and miss y'all (that's my Texan drawal...what do you think?
Mom left on Monday. But we at Mama's Pizza and Carshon's Deli before we left. Mama's Pizza is THE best pizza I have ever eaten, so we wanted to make sure that Mom got to try it before she left. Carshon's Deli has an awesome Rueben sandwich. It's a Kosher deli and we've eaten there everytime we've come to TX. Both by the TCU campus.
We took Mom to the airport about 4:00. Her flight left at 5:30 and when I called at 8:15 that night, they were just getting in to Tony's garage. She said her flight was good and she sat next to a man that had been to a Baptist Revival in Denton, TX. That should have been interesting. We are both very glad that Mom decided to come on our trip with us. We're hoping she'll come down and spend some time with us this Winter. But for now, she is back home and back to work, driving the Headstart bus.
After we dropped Mom off, we went to Micheal and Rita's house to surprise Mason. We rode with Micheal and Noble to pick Mason up from band practice. He was as surprised as an almost 15 year old could be. My gosh, is he ever getting tall! I remember Mason when he was just born. The time sure does fly.
Yesterday, I took all of the bedding off the beds. It was quite dusty after our trip. So, I ended up with 7 loads of laundry. While I was doing the laundry I talked with a man who was leaving this morning and heading for Aransas Pass for the Winter. He said that he and his wife had been on the road for 8 years and each winter they spent at Ransom Road RV Park in Aransas Pass, TX. Then Dean and I had to do a little grocery shopping and get some dog food.
It started raining here about 5:00 this morning. It is supposed to rain 2-3 inches today. There is a flash flood watch out for this area. I think I'll spend today cleaning the inside of the RV. I was going to go and apply for a couple of jobs, but I don't want to get wet. That sounds like a pretty good excuse to me.
Well, have a good day and thanks for reading.
We love and miss you all very much.
We got to Alvarado, TX on Friday afternoon. When we pulled up to Dean's Dad's house, we found out it had rained 10-12 inches over the last month and the ground was just to wet to put the RV next to his house.
So, once again we set out to find a campground. We found a beautiful campground in Burleson, TX, which is only about 9 miles from Charlie's house. We are at the Rustic Creek Ranch. The website is www.rv-ranch.com They have two pools, a whirlpool, cabins, bunkhouses, 4 laundrys and showers, 2 party rooms and grass and trees on the lots. It's very nice here.
We went out yesterday to look at other campgrounds but couldn't find anything that could compare with this place at a comparable price. So, we've decided to stay here for at least a month. We also may have the opportunity to 'workamp'. We were told that if you work 80 hours a month, you get your rent and electicity paid. So, we're hoping to be able to do that.
Today, Mom and I went to Church at Travis Avenue Baptist Church. It is a very pretty church with a choir that sends tingles down your spine when they sing.
We got back to the campground afterward and decided to go to Fort Worth Stockyards and then we went to the Ft. Worth Water Garden. We then went for pizza at Mama's Pizza in Ft. Worth and then went to visit Micheal, Rita and Noble. Noble has grown so much in these last 10 months. He's walking and talking. He can point to his nose, eyes, ears, tongue, knee and toes. It was fun to see him.
Tomorrow we take Mom to the airport. She is flying back to MN. We'll stop at Carshon's Deli first for a Rueben sandwich (they make the best Ruebens).
Talk to you later and thanks for reading.
Woke up in Tye, TX this morning and it’s COLD! Take me back to Carlsbad, NM because that was the best weather we’ve had on our entire trip.
Anyway, we had plans to stop at a campground in Sweetwater, TX but the GPS had given us the wrong exit and it was a rest area. So, we headed down the road to this little town just west of Abilene. The RV park is called TYE RV Park. It’s a nice park. It’s the first time we’ve seen grass in an RV park since we left home.
They don’t have internet access here and no local TV channels, but they do have Encore, HBO, Showtime, etc. Hmmmm, just another ‘head scratcher’.
We are about 4 hours from Alvarado, so I guess we’ll see Charlie today. It’s been a beautiful trip and I’m very sad that it’s over. But, again, I’ll thank the Good Lord for the opportunity that we’ve had. Once we get to Alvarado, we’ll need to look for a more permanent place to stay. We’ll stay at Charlie’s until we find an RV park where we’ll want to spend the winter.
Yesterday, just East of Carlsbad we passed a pickup hauling a trailer and on the trailer was a dead horse! You don’t see that everyday.
Well, yesterday marked our one month anniversary on the road. It's hard to believe, it's been a month. It really has been an awesome month. It sure doesn't seem like it's been that long.
When we first left Elk River, we had no idea what to expect and knew very little of what we were doing. The first night, when we parked in the Walmart parking lot in Fargo, I thought to myself, okay, we did that.
And as we continued down the road, it was just a feeling of being free. We have spent $885 in lodging over the last 30 days. At first I thought, wow, that's a lot of money, but that's included internet, electricity, cable (or satellite), water and sewer. All the while enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery that exists.
We've have pretty much concluded our trip of the Southwest. But, we'll be back, because we've found alot more things to see and do. And some to revisit. We're leaving Carlsbad, NM today (which by the way, has given us 2 perfect weather days) High 80's during the day and mid 50's at night. This is one of the places I'd like to come back to and spend more time. Looking at the area's average temperatures, they are 85 degrees during the Summer and 60 degrees during the Winter. It's a dry heat (Joan) and I think those are perfect temperatures.
We visited the Carlsbad Caverns yesterday, which were awesome. We sent underneath the ground 755 feet. It was 89 degrees outside, but in the caverns it was 59 degrees with 90% humidity. It was 1.5 miles around the caverns and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
Today we head for TX. We will probably stop in Abilene or some where near there tonight and stay in a Walmart because we'll only be there for one night.
Dean and I were talking and both agreed that our 20 year old motorhome has treated us very well and we'll continue to keep our fingers crossed until we get to TX. We are pretty proud of, not only the motorhome, but ourselves. We've almost completed what we have wanted to do for years and feel very blessed to have had this opportunity.
We miss our families very much, but have been able to keep in contact by phone and the internet.
Thanks for reading....have a great day
Wow, we took a 45 minute trip today.
We decided to come to Carlsbad RV Park for two nights. Dean is looking forward to going fishing tomorrow morning and then we'll go to the Caverns.
Today Mom and I went grocery shopping. Then we go!t back to camp and watched Judge Judy. After Judy we went out for BBQ Dinner. We ate at the Red Chimney in Carlsbad. It was BBQ and it was very good. Dean and I both had the beef BBQ dinner with okra and bean. Yummy.
After dinner we went down to the Riverwalk on the Pecos River and walked across the bridge to the other side. The sun was setting and it was beautiful. I was able to upload the pictures on the website so check them out
It's 8 p.m. and still 75 degrees outside. Tomorrow it's supposed to be windy and 95!
That's all for right now, thanks for reading.
We traveled from Albuquerque to Artesia yesterday, only after putting an alternator into the RV!
When we arrived in Albuquerque, the RV was making a noise like a belt was loose or something. Dean looked at it and decided he didn't know what it was so he called a garage and made an appt. We brought it in at 8 a.m. and there was another guy waiting there, too. They took the RV in and we went to get some breakfast. At 10:30 Dean called and the RV was ready. When we got back to the garage there was another guy there having his RV fixed. This guy needed a new motor and another guy needed a new motor. After talking with both of these guys, we knocked on wood and thanked the Lord that we only needed an alternator.
In talking with one of the men at the garage, he was telling me the story of his friend, George. George was very ill and he wasn't going to get any better. George always wanted to go to San Francisco so earlier this year, this 'man' and George took the RV out to San Francisco so that George could cross off one of his items on his bucket list. The 'man' said that George fell in love with the place and they stayed for quite awhile. When they came back to Albuquerque George continued to get sicker. The 'man' said that doctors suggested putting George in hospice, but George didn't want to die in a 'building' with no one who cared about him. So the 'man' suggested that George stay with him in his RV. George was with him for a couple of months and then George passed away.
George was creamated and the 'man' was taking George out to San Francisco Bay to spread his ashes when the RV broke down. The 'man' said that George was in a coffee can in the back of his lime green VW van. He said the coffee lid had a clear plastic cover so that George could see out. The 'man' was sure George was "upstairs" laughing and partying because of the delay in the trip. All I can say is Poor George.
Today, it's supposed to be sunny and 85 degrees. Very different from the 30 degree weather and snow they are having back in MN. Dean and I are going to Roswell to look for aliens, we'll let you know if we find any.
Have a good day and thanks for reading
